San Antonio has never been known to have an extremely large Irish-American population, however, this St. Patrick’s Day that will briefly change! Every year the Paseo del Rio Association and the Harp and Shamrock Society of Texas bring a taste of the Emerald Isle to Downtown San Antonio by transforming the San Antonio River into the River Shannon and temporarily turning everyone Irish.

Saturday, March 16 will kick off the 45th year for the two-day long St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and Parade at La Villita. Just a ten minute walk from the Sheraton Gunter Hotel, the festival highlights Irish culture in the best of ways through food, drink, and dance! During the River parade on Sunday, 110- pounds of environmentally friendly dye will be dumped into the river, giving the water an emerald-green appearance

If you’re headed to San Antonio this weekend and are looking for a unique way to celebrate St. Patty’s Day, then mark your calendars. Grab your red beard, top hat, and shamrock covered bandanas and come visit. Don’t forget to pack something green. No one likes to get pinched on St. Patrick’s Day!
