Last-Minute Escapes

School begins soon which leaves only a small window of opportunity to get your fill of some rest and relaxation  before the summer comes to a close. With the days counting down and the stress already starting to pile up, planning a final hoorah might be the last thing on your mind. However, it’s important to take some time, whether it be a few hours or a few days, to relax and reenergize before the upcoming months.

Here are some quick, easy, last-minute ideas you can take advantage of before schedules pick up again.

  1. Take a day trip. Gruene, Kerrville, Fredericksburg. These quaint towns are all within an hour from San Antonio. Explore the history, culture and shopping of these adorable Texas towns and forget about your to-do list for a few hours.
  2. Spend the night at a local hotel. Remember the excitement you get when you walk up to the front of a hotel to check in? That’s when vacations officially begin. You don’t have to be hundreds of miles away from your home to steal feel that same reaction when you walk into a hotel. Become tourists in your hometown! “Staycation” at the Sheraton Gunter, anyone?
  3. Head to a museum. For some of us, the last time we set foot into a museum was during a 3rd grade field trip. As an adult, museums aren’t as daunting as they use to be. It’s easier to appreciate the art, artifacts, and exhibits the older you get.
  4. Cooking Class. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a disaster in the kitchen, everyone has fun playing with food. Check your local culinary institutes, kitchen supply stores, or grocery stores for fun, seasonal classes that not only teach you cooking new techniques, but also gives you a new recipe to try on your family and friends.
